A Little History

Ste7en Foster Visual Timeline

This photo was taken about the age I discovered my mother’s typewriter (1) in the bottom of a closet. Then, of course, I grew up (2) where I then discovered—(like everybody else) computers (3). Then I went into advertising (4), wrote my first screenplay (5), then wrote my first book (6). And finally, there’s Ghost Stories (7) that will, thanks to millions on YouTube, now be enjoyed loooooong after I’m gone. Which is very cool.

Whether it was the muse or an angel or God Themself (*), I gotta thank Them that I was actually able to make a living doing the only thing I knew how to do.

Just a side note, this doofus had no idea but he’d have a red convertible (!) one day. That little boy wish—and many, many grown-up ones—came true and they’re still coming true to this day.

Every year, Out Magazine makes a Hot 100 List (3) and in 2006, I made the list! And wouldn’t you know it, they spelled my name wrong (4) in the mag—and that’s before it had a 7 in it. Here’s a short story about the whole shebang.

The other images are of a polaroid (2) of my date, Taylor Hannah, and I; and the clear and black plexiglass party invite (1).

She’s a little dated now, but in the late 90s, “Karyn” caused quite the stir when it aired.

When I was in advertising, I won—and I’m just bein’ honest here— a shit ton of awards. Out of all of them, this radio commercial sits at the top of my work. Like I said, it’s a radio spot, but so you have something to look at while you listen, I added text.

Just click on the radio.

OutSmart Magazine was doing a story on my anime work. I suggested something other than the usual cover headshot, mainly by having the actors stand in for their characters. Except Dortin at the top. For size reasons, we used my 5-year-old daughter. And the blue wolf cub. The woman who did the voice for that was not puppy size. Left to right are Orphen (David Matranga), Stephanie (Karen Coffer), and Hartia (Ty Mayberry).

Just click on the magazine.

Since OutSmart put Orphen characters on the cover with me, the sharp marketing department seized the opportunity and asked me to come up with a full-page ad for the show.

Anime Insider wanted to do a feature on actors who I worked with at ADV Films. And I was always shoving actors to the fore; they’re who the fans really want to see. But  I was known for folding live action into anime like The Super Milk-Chan Show, and onto anime shows such as Orphen, Gilgamesh, Pani-Poni Dash, Steel Angel Kurumi, and Le Chevalier d’Eon.

I’m actually the only guy ever to be awarded this title, and this was the only time Play magazine gave out a Best Producer honor. Only once, never since. Which means, obviously, that I broke the award.
